Everyone wants justice.
That’s what Assistant DA, Lulu Lightly, tells me.
“Cathedral City needs you to set things right,” she says. “To rid this place of corruption once and for all.”
I’d like to rid Lulu Lightly of her clothes. And maybe her moral superiority. But mostly her clothes.
“I want you to fight the good fight with me,” she says.
Hell, yeah. I’m always up for a fight.
“We should stand up and be the voice of the people,” she says.
Sure, I hear voices. Sometimes I even listen to them.
“Figure out what’s good for the City and put it first,” she says.
Oh, honey… what’s good for the City is bad for the people. Trust me, I know. I’m Case Reider—insane Alpha, nefarious inventor, and I understand this town better than anyone.
Cathedral City needs me all right. Just not the way you think.
I’m not the justice you’re looking for, Lulu Lightly.
I’m still the same villain you left behind.
Only now… there’s something very, very wrong with me.

I was first introduced to this world early back in 2015 and I instantly fell in love with the exciting world and unique characters. Even though it has been a while in between books, I felt that I didn't get lost and was swept away in this fantastic world once again.

The characters in this series are well developed and bring their own individuality to the story, despite being connected most of their lives. Case has lived a difficult life, and will be forever linked to Lincoln and Thomas because of their shared pasts, and the plans they have for the future. Lulu is new to town and has an open mind being the new assistant DA.

Case and Lulu were fantastic together and I liked that they had history. They were forced together by their parents, when Lulu needed a partner for her Debutante Ball. They built a strong friendship and were attracted to one another. Even after all the time they'd spent apart I could see that their connection was still there. They were hot together and I could see that Lulu tried to have an open mind about Case and his life.

This was an exciting and action packed ride that I couldn't get enough of. The storyline had me thinking and I guessed how things were happening early on. But of course that's not the end of it, there's always the brains of the operation that needs to be brought down. J.A. Huss has shown me once again why she's the master of keeping me on edge and making me crave more of her work. I cannot wait to get the next book to see where things head next.

I loved this reunion between Lulu and Case...

“You’re back now?” he asks. Eyes almost pleading.
“I’m back now.”
He sits on the stone bench and it’s like… it’s like we’re kids again. At the end of that one night at the ball. But this time we are deliberate. Older. More experienced, but also more cynical.
My eyes never leave his as I hike up my dress, straddle his thighs, and nestle myself into his lap.
He hugs me then. Wraps his arms completely around my waist, pulling me in so close, I almost gasp for air.

How Not to Fall in Love, Actually by Catherine Bennetto ~ Review & Quote-tastic (@cathbennetto, @SimonSchusterAU)

I was given this debut novel by Catherine Bennetto, and I devoured it quickly! It had the right amount of quirkiness, drama and amusing moments that kept me glued to the pages!!

Emma has a job in television which is distinctly less glamourous and exciting than it sounds. She’s managed to claw her way up the ranks from Tea-Maker and Rubbish-Collector to 2nd Assistant Director (heavy on the ‘assistant’. Even heavier on the ‘2nd’).

So when she finds she’s accidentally very pregnant and at the same time accidentally very sacked (well, less accidentally: she did tell her boss to stick his job up his bum), she knows things are going to have to change.

Luckily she’s also accidentally the heir to a lovely cottage in Wimbledon, with a crazy Rottweiler-owning octogenarian as a neighbour and a rather sexy boy as an accidental tenant. But this baby is coming whether she likes it or not, and she needs to become the sort of person who can look after herself let alone another human being – and quickly.

To be honest, the cover of How Not to Fall in Love, Actually would throw me off, but the good people at Simon Schuster Aus sent it to me, so I thought I'd give it a second look. After reading the description where she accidentally gets knocked up, splits with the father of the baby and puts up with a crazy neighbour, I certainly was intrigued!! And it wasn't anything like the romance reads that I usually pick up, so I think that's why I enjoyed it so much!

Emma was such an interesting character to read about! She went through some tough times, but she always managed to pull through. There were moments that made my heart ache for her as she had to deal with life altering decisions and the betrayal of those she kept close. She was such a kind person and saw the best in everyone around her. She was also close with her family, even if they tested her patience at times.

I met a lot of interesting characters throughout Emma's journey: her quirky neighbour always looked out for her, Emma's mother was a bit self absorbed, her sister was always there for support, her accidental house mate seemed to keep her smiling, her aunt always spoke her mind and her uncle kept her grounded.

How Not to Fall in Love, Actually was entertainment plus from cover to cover! There were so many amusing scenes that made me laugh or smile. I loved seeing Emma grow into a stronger person throughout the book, even though this was not the life she had planned. She struggled with her feelings, and was a little self absorbed herself at times as she dealt with the huge comedy of errors her life had become. There was even a touch of romance that grew throughout the story that I loved as well. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Catherine Bennetto in the future, she's found an instant fan in me!

This quote is a little longer than I usually share, but it gives you a great taste into Emma's crazy life and the beautiful writing of the author!

‘Lying to Mum is completely stressing me out. I can't make Ned sell the ice cream vans now; it sounds like he's doing really well. Uncle Mike is going to find out at some point that his son was not in a Disney-style movie about friendly cats from the afterlife and I just don’t think I can take his disappointment when he finds out Archie is starring in a slasher zombie guts-and-bra film. And what if they find out I nearly lost Archie at the lake? They’d never trust me again. I’m about to have a baby and I don’t know if I even trust myself!’ I sucked in a big breath. ‘And even though all of that is really major stuff, the thing I’m most sad about...’ I sniffed back a tear ‘...is my sister. I miss her so much I feel nauseous.’
Joe remained quiet, stroking the top of my head. ‘I’m afraid of doing this alone.’
The baby?’
Everything. The life ahead of me. All of it.’
You think you’re alone?’ Joe said, leaning back to look me in the eye. I nodded.
Joe smiled. ‘What am I, a figment of your imagination?’
No.’ I looked up at him and began to cry. ‘I’d have imagined you with better hair.’
Joe pulled me into a hug and waited for my sobs to subside.
Everything’s going to be all right, you’ll see,’ he said, giving the top of my head a kiss.
I sat up and wiped my cheeks. ‘That’s it?’ I said. ‘That’s your advice?’
Joe leant forward and scratched Brutus under his muzzle. ‘Yep.’ He smiled.

Mack Daddy by Penelope Ward ~ Review & Swoon Thursday (@PenelopeAuthor)

They called him Mack Daddy. No, seriously, his name was Mack. Short for Mackenzie. Thus, the nickname. Perfect, right?

So was he: perfect. The perfect physical male specimen.

At the private school where I taught, Mack Morrison was the only man around in a sea of women.

Everyone wanted a piece of the hot single father of the sweet little boy.

I was riddled with jealousy, because they didn’t know that—to me—he was much more.

They didn’t know about our past.

He’d chosen my school for his son on purpose, because Mack and I, we had unfinished business.

As my friend, Lorelai, so eloquently put it: “Unfinished business between two people who are clearly attracted to each other is like an eternal case of blue balls.” And I was suffering in pain from my case.

I was still intensely attracted to Mack. I tried to resist him, immersing myself further into a relationship with another man just to protect my heart.

Not to mention, getting involved with a parent was strictly against school rules. But seeing Mack day in and day out was breaking me down.

And soon I might be breaking all the rules.

Penelope Ward has become one of my favourite authors, so when she releases a new book I'm compelled to pick it up! Mack Daddy was about college friends Mackenzie (Mack) and Francesca (Frankie) when they reconnect after 8 years of being apart.

Frankie was a school teacher, and Mack enrolled his son into her school, and also her class. I could see that he was focused on winning Frankie back, but she was in a relationship. That didn't stop him from bearing his feelings and trying to win her back.

I liked that Frankie was a nerdy type of girl; she used to wear glasses and suffered from a bit of OCD. She wore her heart on her sleeve and was a kind and caring person. She loved working with children and had grown a lot as a person since college. She was in a relationship with an older guy and that treated her well, but she struggled with her heart after Mack waltzed back into her life.

Mack struggled with his feelings for Frankie in college, but life threw him a twist he couldn't walk away from. He was an amazing father to Jonah; he would do anything for him and tried to make him happy. The relationship between Mack and his ex was a little strained, and he had a complicated relationship with his own father. The one thing he was sure of was that he needed Frankie back in his life.

While most of the book is told in the present, there were also glimpses of important parts of Mack and Frankie's past. I was able to see how deep their friendship had become and how complicated their feelings were for one another.

While I usually love Penelope's work, Mack Daddy wasn't the explosive read I'd hoped it to be. It was a role reversal from college, throw in a twist and a few cases of blackmail, and it all felt a little surreal. I felt their connection in the past, but not as much in the present. I would've liked to see Mack interact with his son more too. Overall it was a good read and it won't stop me from picking up any of Penelope's future books.

I just loved this moment... it would make any woman weak at the knees!!

... If you choose me, I’m just going to have to love you more, love you harder, so that my love for you trumps everything else. That’s not gonna be hard for me, because I don’t feel like there is a limit to how much I love you.”

He’s back.

Not just back in town, but living in the flat right beneath mine. And he looks good enough to eat, which is just one more reason to stay away from him.

But I can’t resist.

The sex is incredible (pretty sure we’ve shaken the house right off its foundation), but he can’t fool me—not this time. A degree in marketing and five years in advertising have taught me that “true love” is a fairy tale used to sell lipstick, diamonds, and perfume. It doesn’t exist.

He thinks I’m wrong, and he wants to prove it.

I think he’s crazy, so I dare him to try.

It might be the biggest mistake of my life.

What a scorching couple Jaime and Quinn turned out to be! These two were so hot and perfect I just couldn't put the book down! Right from the opening chapter I knew it was going to be an amusing ride because of the situation that Jaime found herself in, and I wasn't disappointed! It was the perfect, light hearted read featuring characters that were insanely attracted to one another, that I couldn't get enough of!

There was a little bit of history between Jaime and Quinn; Quinn was Jaime's older brother's best friend. Jaime had a crush on Quinn when she was younger and when she found the courage to make a move, he shot her down spectacularly! When her first crush moved into the apartment downstairs, I knew it would be an epic journey of Jaime trying to fight her feelings and the attraction that they both obviously shared!

I just loved reading about Quinn, how down to earth he was and I could see how much he cared for his mother. He was just the nicest guy and tried hard to win Jaime over. I could understand Jaime's hurt and confusion when it came to men, when a lot of her childhood experiences shaped her into the person she was today. Even the relationship between her parents wasn't based on love, so it was no wonder she didn't believe in it. I thought it was sweet the way Quinn tried to woo her with romantic gestures and invaded her personal space!

Man Candy was a great read to listen to. Lee Samuels and Brooke Bloomingdale were narrator's that I hadn't listened to before, and I felt they delivered the character's voices perfectly. Actually listening to the story made me feel the connection between the characters, their desires and their hesitations. Melanie Harlow created a perfect lighter read, that had plenty of sizzling scenes to make any girl squirm. But overall, it was the genuine relationship development and the characters that I loved. There were a couple of secondary characters that I'd like to meet again, so fingers crossed that they get their own books too!

Here are two really yummy swoons! This book had a lot of swoon-worthy moments!

He grabbed me and threw me onto the bed, pinning my wrists over my head. His hips anchored mine, his erection trapped between us. “I can’t think if you touch me like that.”
I wrapped my legs around him, my heart pounding. “Thinking is overrated. What do you say we just feel our way through this?”
He crushed his lips to mine.
Finally. Fucking finally.

Kindle Page 65

His kiss had me riled up fast, and I tugged at his jeans. “Wait,” he said. “I’ll be right back.”
A minute later, he came back with his pants undone, condom already on, and peeled my pants and underwear off in one smooth motion. Fuck yes. I love a man who doesn’t belabor the point. When there’s a matter to be settled, let’s settle it.

Can't Touch This by Tess Hunter ~ Review & Quote-tastic (@PepperWinters)

From New York Times Bestseller Pepper Winters writing as Tess Hunter, comes a sarcastic, sexy standalone full of men with big 'you know whats', puppies, pigmy pigs, and swoon-worthy moments.

I don't want to touch it.
I really, really don't.
He's egotistical, crass, and my patient's owner--which makes him totally off limits.
Yep, that's right. He owns the wiener I'm currently working on.
A wiener dog--get your dirty mind out of the gutter.
I've also worked on his Spoodle, his Cocker-shitzu, and a Cheagle--don't ask. (And no, it's not a sexual position).
It doesn't help that he also represents most of my joint-owned veterinary practice's small clientele. We'd only just opened the doors a few months ago, and in he strode with a yelping Taco Terrier. One haughty look at our sparkling new facilities, he'd demanded royal treatment, even though I was currently finger deep up a squalling tom cat.
Ever since then, he expects me to serve him.
Any time. All the time.
Him and his revolving zoo of dogs.
One of these days, I'm going to swat him for being such a pompous ass but I can't deny the way he handles his charges makes me want to see past the 'do as I say and don't ask questions' barking exterior.
But then last week...he caught me staring at his um, cough, package.
His bossy commands switched to a cocky smirk.
He gave me permission to do something I promised myself I would never ever do.
I can touch it.
If I want...

I wasn't sure what I really expected diving into this one, but I wasn't expecting a dorky vet and her alpha male client to be so kinky!! It was an amusing read as these two fumbled through their relationship together and shared their passion of helping animals.

In the beginning Vesper and Ryder only tolerated each other due to Ryder being an over bearing client. He expected Ves to drop everything to be at his beck and call. However, when Ves helped him with his newest acquisition, I could see the sparks flying and it was amusing to see them fumble and flirt with one another!

Ves was such a beautiful person; she was selfless and cared for each animal that was bought into her clinic. She loved her job and had a strong relationship with her best friend and business partner. The more time Vesper spent with Ryder I could see that some of her secret desires had come to the surface!

Although Ryder had lost his parents, he had found his purpose by saving animals. The effort and the vision he had was amazing, and the amount of animals he saved would warm anyone's heart! Vesper pushed his buttons in the beginning, but he liked teasing her and making her uncomfortable.

I enjoyed getting to know each of the characters and seeing their connection strengthen. I could see that they were perfect together, but like most relationships, there were obstacles they needed to get past.

Can't Touch This is a lighter read than what I'm used to reading by Tess Hunter/Pepper Winters. I understand that animals are a big passion for both of the characters, but after a while it felt like a little too much. I wanted them to do something that wasn't focused on the animals... but if you like your reads filled with amazing k-9's, a feisty kitty and an adorable pig, you must pick this one up!

I have a couple of amusing quotes today, that run into each other... you'll get the hint!! 😉

“Was that a man I just saw, child? A man with his twig and berries exposed?”

Kindle Page 135

“If you don’t get rid of her and come here, I’m gonna jizz on your curtains.”
Her eyes flashed to my cock as I fisted it in a death grip. My quads vibrated with the urge to come.
“Don’t you dare.” Her eyes narrowed. “I like those curtains.”
“Get rid of her then.”
A twinkle appeared in her gaze. “Or what?”

Tess Hunter is the superhero pen name of a New York Times, Wall Street Journal, & USA Today Bestseller who gave up swallowing her one-liners and decided to write them instead. Her libido scares even her and having an outlet to be snarky, stupid, and sexy while cloaked by incognito is the perfect recipe for naughtiness online and in-between the romance pages.

Pepper Winters is the mastermind behind Tess Hunter. She’s been lucky enough to publish upward of eighteen books, hit multiple bestseller lists, and earn numerous accolades. She does everything in her power to deliver the best book she can. In the past, she used to favour dark heroes and feisty heroines, but now she has a new appreciation for handsome sweethearts and witty girls. Who knows? Perhaps, she’ll be two people now. Two names for two genres of books. It wouldn’t be so bad.

It just means more books, so that’s a plus in any bookworm’s world, right?
